What is your favorite part of WOW? Seeing the students be excited about science and learning. I thoroughly enjoy being able to be a part of the students’ enjoyment in discovering new facts about the world. I love seeing hands eagerly raised to answer a question or being a part of answering their own curious questions. Knowing I helped brighten their day through science puts a big smile on my own face.

What have you learned from WOW and how might this be applied to your future career? Participating in WOW has certainly taught me to think on my feet. You never know what questions or stories students may have and it is always interesting finding ways to bring their focus back to science. This ability will certainly be important in the fast-paced environment of a veterinary hospital when it seems everything is going on at once. Not only have I gained skills in quick and creative thinking, but I have also had the opportunity to expand my leadership abilities. Through helping train other volunteers and prepare new units, I have gained knowledge on how to most helpfully impart the information I have learned to fellow volunteers and how to organize learning materials. This knowledge will certainly help me further in my career when I have learned enough to be able to teach others in an effective and encouraging manner.
Anything else to add about WOW? It has been an amazing opportunity to encourage students and help them understand the phenomenal world of science!
