WOW Student Council

Alex Bupp

This month Wonder's of our World developed a student council to introduce new roles for our student volunteers. These roles are aimed to offer more leadership and interaction roles for our Ohio State students. These new roles include Team Leads, Curriculum Leads, and Activities Leads. The Team Leads will be responsible for leading visits in the classroom and managing program evaluation for their respective team. The Curriculum Lead will be responsible for generating experiments, unit ideas, and testing experiments. The Activities Lead will help plan special events, coordinating tabling events, and helping develop training content.

Eve Miller

Meet Eve, one of our Team Leads! Eve is a freshman at Ohio State studying biochemistry and sociology. She loves studying chemistry and enjoys learning about the biological processes in our bodies. She decided to major in biochemistry because it combines her interests and will prepare her to pursue a career as a pediatric surgeon. Eve began volunteering at WOW Spring 2025 and is excited to pursue her role as a Team Lead because it combines her love of learning about science and working with kids. She really likes the mission of WOW and wanted to take a larger role in WOW.

Ella Reynolds

Meet Ella, one of our Team Leads! Ella is a sophomore studying neuroscience with a minor in anatomy. She chose her major because she likes studying anatomy, biology, and behavior, and neuroscience was a good mixture of that. After graduation, she hopes to be an oral surgeon or a periodontist. Ella started WOW in Spring 2024 and hopes to be a good example for our volunteers and get students interested in science fields!

Alex Bupp

Meet Alex, one of our Team Leads! Alex is a freshman at Ohio State studying zoology. He has always been passionate about animals and conservation and hopes to go to graduate school after graduation. Alex has been volunteering with WOW since Fall 2024 and is excited to be able to improve his leadership skills. He is also really excited to be able to participate more in a program that promotes science to kids, since programs like this got him interested in science when he was a kid.

Lydia Serra

Meet Lydia, one of our Team Leads! Lydia is a sophomore at Ohio State studying speech and hearing sciences, minoring in anatomy. She chose her major because she is interested in clinical practices, but not really into medical settings. She loves to work with kids and hopes to work in elementary schools as a speech therapist! Lydia began volunteering with WOW Spring 2024 and as a team lead she hopes to work to adapt our activities to fit the needs of every child while remaining flexible to the classroom environment. She hopes to help continue to make WOW accessible to all children!

Ryan Kerwood

Meet Ryan, one of our Team Leads! Ryan is a freshman at Ohio State studying computer science and engineering. Ryan has been volunteering with WOW since Fall 2024, and has taken a very active role in the classroom while going on visits!

Melani Lazaro

Meet Melani, our Activity Co-lead! Melani is a sophomore at Ohio State studying electrical and computer engineering. She chose her major because she has always been fascinated by how computers work, and wants to contribute to emerging technology. Additionally, since the field is always evolving, there’s always something new to learn. After graduating, she plans to become a hardware engineer, working on building and repairing computers, and researching computer engineering applications in the medical field to develop solutions that improve patient care. Melani started volunteering with WOW Autumn 2023 and she is excited to collaborate with everyone on the council, brainstorm new ideas, and help expand WOW.

Sydney Brown

Meet Sydney, our Activity Co-Lead! Sydney is a junior at Ohio State studying vision science. She began volunteering with WOW Spring 2024 and is excited to brainstorm some fun events for the volunteers at WOW to attend. She expresses how all of the volunteers work so hard to help make this a worthwhile experience for the kids, so it will be nice to give back to them too.

Calvin Ni

Meet Calvin, our Curriculum Co-Lead! Calvin is a freshman at Ohio State studying chemistry with a minor in philosophy. He wanted to pursue chemistry because he enjoys problem solving and is planning to pursue a career in medicine. Calvin began volunteering with WOW this semester and is excited to have the opportunity to think like a kid and look at science from a pure and adventurous perspective. As a Curriculum Lead, he hopes to utilize his creativity and thoughts to plan out activities that both volunteers and students are able to immerse themselves in.

Alexandra Avery

Meet Alexandra, our Curriculum Co-Lead! Alexandra is a junior at Ohio State studying integrated science education. After graduation, she hopes to become a high school science teacher because she enjoys building a love fro science and learning through education. She loves working with diverse groups of students to foster positive mindsets towards STEM. Alexandra joined WOW Fall 2024 and is excited to contribute her knowledge of lesson planning and implementation to create exciting and engaging experiments for WOW programming.
