WOW Spotlight: Jordan Porter

Jordan Porter on a visit

Meet Jordan! He is a first year student at Ohio State studying biochemistry, minoring in pharmaceutical sciences. He began his journey with WOW autumn 2025 and has been a proud volunteer since! Jordan chose his major because he is very passionate about a career assisting in the medical field rather hands-on clinical work or research. He explains how biochemistry provides great preparation for pursuing an education in a professional school which aligns with his goal to make a true impact in the medical field. He has always enjoyed learning about science, but Jordan wanted to use his major and interest in a way to help others recover in their health journey. Jordan wants to use his fortunate opportunity to study here at Ohio State University to work towards a better future for patients struggling with their health and to honor his grandfather who have experienced diseases like cancer. Seeing how chronic and serious diseases have impacted people has motivated him to be part of the team to find a treatment for these diseases.

What’s your favorite Ohio State memory or experience?
My favorite Ohio State memory would have to be when I got to visit to Choose Ohio First scholar showcase research poster presentation at the Statehouse, it was a very cool experience!

What advice would you offer to future students in your major?
I would advise future students to follow their passions and not do activities or pursue a career that they have no interest in. In the long run you only spend a short amount of years in college and it is best to enjoy it to its full capacity and do things that you will make you feel fulfilled.

What is your favorite part of WOW?
My favorite part of WOW is visiting the elementary schools, being reminded of how much joy your presence can fill a room, their faces immediately light up when they see Nathan and our team walk in, and it brings me joy and fulfillment. I have learned how to be patient and compassionate. Teaching students from WOW will help me grow as a future professional in strengthening my interactions with the youth and my ability to educate an audience on a specific topic.
