What is your favorite part of WOW?
Throughout my involvement with WOW, my favorite aspect of the organization has been the direct engagement with the youth in Columbus, Ohio. I greatly value the chance to offer these students an enriched education, and I’m hopeful that the efforts of WOW are further equipping these children to continue their academic endeavors.
What does WOW mean to you?
For me, WOW serves as a platform to be the representation I longed for during my own upbringing. While I primarily conduct experiments with students during visits, I also make a point to initiate conversations about their future career goals. We dedicate time to discussing their interests, which is often followed by them asking me questions about my journey in medicine. Their enthusiasm during these conversations always puts a smile on my face. Throughout my childhood, I rarely saw Black individuals or many women in high, professional fields like medicine or engineering. So, it is rewarding to think that my volunteer experience might inspire these students to pursue such fields, feeling supported by seeing a reflection of themselves in me.
