WOW Spotlight: Corajayne DeBoer

Meet Corajayne! Corajayne is a sophomore at Ohio State studying microbiology with a minor in spanish. She chose to major in microbiology because she enjoyed a Human Biology course she took in high school. Corajayne's favorite part of microbiology so far has been learning about plants. Microbiology has many interesting niches that would prepare her for graduate school or a career in the biotech industry. She has always been drawn to the natural sciences, and many of the careers that she explored before entering college listed microbiology as a potential major for working in that field. Corajayne began volunteering with WOW her freshman year, Fall 2024.

What’s your favorite Ohio State memory or experience?

My favorite Ohio State experience has been working as an undergraduate research assistant. I have learned many wet and dry lab techniques throughout my time there, and about future career options. My lab is also a supportive and fun environment, and I enjoy working with everyone immensely.

What is your favorite part of WOW?

WOW is a great way to connect with younger students and instill a love for science at a young age. I participated in a similar program in high school, and I was excited to continue that trend in college. I come from a family of elementary school teachers, so early education is important to me. I love that I have the opportunity to introduce kids to new ideas and interests!
