WOW Spotlight: Cha'Nyah Hawkins
Meet Cha'Nyah! She is a 4th year studying zoology! She chose her major because she has a growing passion for the conservation and rehabilitation of wildlife animals. What Cha'Nyah likes most about it is continuously being involved in different opportunities that relate to the field, such as volunteering at the Ohio Wildlife Center in Columbus. She knew this major was right for her when she felt the importance of restoration of habitats for wildlife animals, specifically from a documentary about orangutans about their natural habitats. So far, zoology has been preparing her well for future career pathways, with many opportunities in volunteering and internships available. Cha'Nyah has been volunteering since her sophomore year (Fall 2023), and has been a dedicated volunteer since!
What’s your favorite Ohio State memory or experience?
One of my favorite memories at Ohio State is meeting new people during my freshman year. This is my favorite memory because those same people have become a big part of my life now almost four years later and I've met people that I know I want to keep in my life after graduation!
What advice would you offer to future students in your major?
Advice I'd offer to future students in my major is always put yourself out there. I feel like within this field, it's important to make connections, be it making friends in your major, connecting with people within the field, or looking towards advisors or professors for help, it's always great to have someone to turn to during school, since it can be difficult during different periods of time. This can help you put your foot in the door and also make lifelong friendships.
