WOW Spotlight: Brett Warner

Meet Brett! Brett is a fourth year student at Ohio State studying Chemical Engineering. Brett has been drawn to engineering for as long as he can remember, however he loves to versatility of it. There are many opportunities to work in fields like sustainability, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology, so he would have the opportunity to work in a number of impactful fields over his career. To him engineering is almost synonymous with problem solving and he loves the idea of being able to sit down and come up with solutions to real world problems as a career. Brett started volunteering with WOW spring 2023, and has been a participating in visits since!

What advice would you give for other students at Ohio State?
Really try and push yourself to get involved in campus. Whether it’s something like joining a club or going to games on the weekend, there are so many fun opportunities on campus that can not only develop you professionally, but also just make your experience on campus better overall. Also try and find people in your major to study with, having a study group is not only a resource to help you be better prepared for homeworks and tests, but it’s also a really good way to meet like-minded people.
What is your favorite part of WOW?
My favorite part of WOW is seeing students interest in the topics you’re showing to them. I feel like every student gets excited to do the experiments, but there’s usually a handful each class that seem to really engage with the topics and will start asking you really good questions about what they are seeing. It’s a nice thought to me that I could have helped set a future chemist or astronomer on their path by being the one to introduce the topic to them in a fun way.
What is your favorite Ohio State Memory?
Being in The Shoe on Saturdays with friends. Honorable mention to watching Ohio State win the national championship at the Gateway Film Center.
