WOW Spotlight: Bethel Jegol
Meet Bethel! She is a third year student at Ohio State studying Neuroscience. Bethel has been a volunteering with WOW since Spring of 2025! She chose neuroscience as her major because she's always been fascinated by how the brain works and how it influences all parts of our behavior and decision-making. She explains how the brain is such a powerful organ, and wanted to learn more about all the different parts of it. She initially chose it, not thinking much about it before coming to Ohio State, but she has grown to love it even more now that she's here. One of the things she enjoys the most about neuroscience, is that it combines multiple aspects of multiple subjects, like chemistry, psychology, biology, and more. She finds this as great preparation for her career because she plans to specialize in neurology in her future health career.
What’s your favorite Ohio State memory or experience?
I would say my favorite Ohio State experience is being a part of the Ethiopian Student Organization. I have created some of the best memories with the people in this student group, and this semester, being my last one, has made me look back on all the friends and people I’ve met.
What is your favorite part of WOW?
My favorite part of WOW is getting to teach all of the elementary school students! Coming in every week and seeing how excited they are to learn and have them with me really makes me realize why I am here. It’s really rewarding to see the students get excited about the experiments we provide them and then seeing them engage and participate makes it even more meaningful to me.
